EmpoWomen project, funded by the European Union through its Horizon Europe Research and Innovation program, seeks to overcome the obstacles faced by women in the field of R&D&I to improve equality in deep-tech entrepreneurship.

In line with this purpose, a total of 2 calls will be announced, offering grants of up to €45,000 for project ideas proposed by women-led startup companies. In addition to the grant, companies qualifying for support will also benefit from an accelerator program encompassing various non-monetary supports. The first call will open on January 1, 2024, and close on March 8, 2024.

Who can apply to the 1st Open Call?

  • Deep tech Startups: The startup must be engaged in the development of advanced and disruptive technologies, according to European definitions for deeptech.
  • Women Leadership: It is essential that the leadership of the startup be headed by women, with at least one woman playing a key role, either as a co-founder, a member of the core management team, or on the board of directors. 
  • Equity Participation: Women are expected to have a significant share in the equity ownership of the startup.
  • Geographical Location: The company must be legally established in: 
    • Widening Countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.
    • Outermost regions: Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Réunion, Martinique, Mayotte and Saint-Martin (France), Canary Islands (Spain), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Réunion, Martinique, Mayotte and Saint-Martin (France).
    • Associated countries: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Faroe Islands, North Macedonia, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Tunisia, Türkiye, Ukraine.
